Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a 28-aa peptide including a disulfide bond (Cys7-Cys23). ANP [1-11] Peptide corresponds to the first 11-aa of the rat ANP sequence. ANP is a potent vasoactive substance secreted by heart muscle cells. ANP is involved in the homeostatic control of body water, sodium, potassium and fat tissue resulting in reducing blood pressure. ANP is expressed as a 151-aa precursor form, later released as the 28-aa C-term mature form upon cell stimulation. ANP is used as a biomarker for cardiovascular diseases.
