Nesiritide acetate is a B-type natriuretic peptide synthesized by recombinant DNA technology. It consists of 32 amino acids, and is connected by a disulfide bond between the 10th and 26th amino acids (both are cysteine) to form a 17-amino acid ring structure. Its function is similar to that of naturally occurring BNP, and it exerts its physiological effects by binding to natriuretic peptide type A and type B receptors.
