Leuprorelin is a synthetic nonapeptide gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue in a villous solid form. The compound binds to specific receptors in the pituitary gland, reduces the responsiveness of the pituitary gland, and thus inhibits the activity of the gonadal system. Specifically, the secretion of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and estrogen or androgen is inhibited, thus showing a significant therapeutic effect on sex hormone-dependent diseases.
