Goserelin acetate is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone 10-peptide that is very similar to luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH). The compound introduces D-Ser(But) and NH-NHCONH2 at specific positions, replacing Gly6 and Gly10-NH2 in natural LHRH, respectively. Specifically, the modification of the C-terminus only involves replacing CH2 of Gly with NH, a change that helps prevent enzymatic hydrolysis of the peptide chain by post-proline carboxamidopeptidase. Goserelin acetate can significantly increase estradiol or testosterone levels to near castration levels, and therefore has a significant therapeutic effect on diseases that depend on sex hormones.
