Hexarelin is a synthetic hexapeptide agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R).1,2 It selectively binds to GHS-R over CD36 (IC50s = 15.9 and 2,080 nM, respectively).1 Hexarelin increases plasma growth hormone levels in neonatal rats. It also improves left ventricular function and reduces fibrosis in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia induced by transient ligation of the left descending coronary artery (LAD) when administered at a dose of 0.3 mg/kg per day.
